Wolverine Wins the 48th Annual Sea Horse Anglers Club Bermuda Billfish Tournament

Team Wolverine, a 60’ Winter based out of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina led by Captain Rocky Hardison and mate Andy Cranford held on to win the 2021 Sea Horse Anglers Club Billfish Tournament.  Wolverine began the tournament with two blue marlin releases on day one for angler Worth Farrington positioning them in second behind team Kanaloa who also released two blue marlin on the day.  Wolverine and Farrington had the first blue marlin release on day two bringing their total points to 1,500.  The early catch was key, wining them the Daily Release Jackpot. Wolverine did not score on the final day but their 1,500–points were enough to hold off a charging field to take the win earning $77,700 and Top Angler honors for Worth Farrington. Team Wolverine also qualifies to compete in the 2022 Costa Offshore World Championship.

 

Team Sea Striker, a 61 Jarrett Bay based out of Morehead City, North Carolina led by owner Adrian Holler, Captain Pete Zook and Mate Christian Bedsworth released a blue and boated an impressive yellowfin tuna weighing 141.70 – pounds during the first day of the competition.   They added another blue release on day two staying close to the leaders with a final day one white marlin release giving Sea Striker 1100 – points placing them second in the tournament. Curtis Struyk did all of the angling for the team with his tuna catch taking the game fish division for a total winnings of $37,480.

 

Team Kanaloa, a 58’ Spencer based out of New York with Captain Nick Garnsey and mate Justin Mackey started strong releasing two blue marlin on the first day for anglers John Esposito and Riad Hallal to win the Daily Release Jackpot and lead the tournament.  Kanaloa’s 1000-points from the first day was enough to give them third place in the competition winning a total of $43,720.

 

Team American Beauty a 52’ Shearline based in Miami Beach, Florida with Captain Michael Butler, mates Ryan McCullough and Pete Lewis released the first blue on the final day winning the Daily Release Jackpot for a total of $23,400.

 

Top Lady Angler honors went to Taylor Lambert fishing on Reel Tight for her blue marlin release.

 

The 20 team field released 24 blue marlin and 2 white marlin over the three days of fishing. There were no marlin boated so the Daily Largest Marlin Jackpots went to the top daily release point teams entered in that jackpot. The Overall Largest Marlin Jackpot was awarded to the top three high point teams entered in the optional jackpot and split 50-30-20. The Sea Horse final registration party is hosted by the Docksider Pub and culminated with the traditional Royal Bermuda Yacht cocktail reception and awards banquet dinner.
