Sea Horse Anglers Club Bermuda Billfish Tournament 2020: Final Report

HAMILTON, Bermuda—(July 27, 2020) — The Sea Horse Club Tournament kicked off with the traditional registration night at Docksider Pub. The teams were excited to get the final leg of the Triple Crown under way in hopes of winning the coveted title. The first day of fishing saw more incredibly calm seas and sunny skies but the fishing was slow.

Team Auspicious remained the most consistent releasing the first blue to win the daily release jackpot and take the lead in the tournament. Other teams with successful blue marlin releases included Bree, Tenacious and Legacy.

Angler Maria Smith did all of the angling for the team that accomplished four blue marlin releases throughout the day to win the Daily Release Jackpot and take the lead in the tournament. Team Legacy added a blue to their score giving them second place position. Tenacious also caught a blue to move into third heading into the final day.

With Uno Mas charging for the Triple Crown title a key release by Auspicious kept them on top of the series points with one day to go. Other teams with successful releases included Hot Spot, Reel Lax and Just A Dog. Team Bree weighed a 34.50-pound wahoo to lead the game fish division.

The final day of fishing in the Sea Horse and Triple Crown provided more fantastic weather and a good bite for the teams. For family team Miss TJ more incredible memories were made with 14-year old angler PJ Rodrigues catching 3 blues to win the Junior Angler award.

Team Bree made a charge releasing two blues and a white to earn third place team and largest game fish award for their 34.50-pound wahoo. The battle for first was between Auspicious and Uno Mas going back and forth through the day. Auspicious Captain Edward “Cookie” Murray put the team on two blue marlin releases for anglers Joe Rahman and Carl Copeland moving them into first place with less than three hours left in the tournament.

Team Uno Mas with Captain Brooks Smith scored a blue release for angler Maria Smith evening the score but behind on time of release. As the clock wound down to the final hour of the tournament Uno Mas was on again with only eight minutes left in fishing. The successful release by angler Maria Smith pushed Uno Mas to the top proving once again it’s never over until it’s over.
